In 2017, I received an official diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder and found myself hospitalized in a Mental Health Facility during the same year. My path to recovery encompassed a comprehensive approach, including talk therapy, consultations, medication, dietary adjustments, and exercise. Embracing a holistic perspective, I understood early on that healing is a nonlinear journey unique to each individual. Reflecting on my experience, I realized my journey was vibrant and diverse.
Throughout my healing process, I encountered individuals from all walks of life who bravely shared their struggles and vulnerabilities. Many of these encounters blossomed into deep friendships, with some continuing to advocate for mental health awareness. These connections became the brightest moments of my journey, offering glimpses of hope and constant reminders that everything will eventually fall into place despite the challenges.
In a symbolic gesture of resilience, I chose to mark my journey with a semi-colon tattoo following a thwarted suicide attempt. This simple yet profound symbol remains etched on my mind, heart, and wrist as a poignant reminder that my story is ongoing. Powerful words encapsulated in that ink serve as a mantra: life’s trials may cause us to stumble or even falter, but we always find the strength to rise again.
