During my high school years, I endured the torment of bullying. The cruelty targeted my body size, subjecting me to hurtful comments about my weight and my sexuality, as I faced verbal abuse for being gay. Amid sadness and anger, I made the drastic decision to shed weight by starving myself while concealing my true self by wearing a mask to school.
With no one to confide in about my anguish and a reluctance to open up to my parents, I found myself sinking into despair. The agony grew so unbearable that I resorted to self-harm and contemplated suicide. Then, I stumbled upon a quote that resonated deeply: “Our darkest episodes can be illuminated by the presence of true friends, helping us to come back from the brink of hopelessness.” This powerful message spurred me to gather my strength and reclaim my lost sense of joy.
Finding solace in playing badminton, I discovered a community where I was accepted for who I am. Surrounded by kindred spirits, I found a haven to express myself freely. These newfound friends brought laughter back into my life and became an unwavering pillar of support.
Though I eventually shifted my focus to academic pursuits and left badminton behind, the bonds forged during those turbulent times endured. Now, as a third-year BS Psychology student, I am fueled by a passion to extend mental support to others in need, inspired by my journey of healing and resilience.
