Since its establishment in 1960, the Mental Health/Psychiatry Center had dynamically responded to the changing times. For services, it is recognized as an ISO-accredited facility with a 200-bed capacity and categorized as an Advanced Comprehensive Center. It provides outpatient/inpatient assessment, neuropsychological testing, therapeutic play, forensic evaluation, detoxification, home conduction, pharmacy and laboratory services.
With the psychiatric consultants being diplomates and fellows of the Philippine Psychiatric Association, in January 1, 2022, the residency program was established which accreditation by the Specialty Board of Philippine Psychiatry beginning 2022 until present time. Currently, there are 7 residents, four 3rdyear, two 2nd year one 1st year, respectively. Together with board-certified nurse specialists and licensed psychometricians, the Center provides experiential learning to nurse and medical clerks and interns, as well as training for the creation of Acute Psychiatric Units for primary health care workers.
Thru the modernization program the Center had the following infrastructure erected: 2018–ACIS building; 2021–Male Ward and Administrative Building; August 2023–temporary female ward and by 2024 –permanent female ward.
Relating to equipment, the Center offers state-of-the art somatic therapy, the deep TMS machine, utilized for depression and OCD and, by 2024, the ECT machine for treatment-resistant schizophrenia.
For linkages, the consultants are recognized by the WHO as module facilitators of the mhGAP and endorsed by the DOH-RV to train for SBIRTA among primary health care workers. Likewise, consultants conduct psychological first aid and mental health symposia.
The Mental Health/Psychiatry Center will continue to strive for excellence while maintaining compassionate care and quality service to every patient it serves.
